Vintage at Southbank

Today we'll be visiting the Vintage at Southbank Festival 2011. A celebration of Vintage design, music and fashion from the 20's to the 80's is right up our street and promises to be an excellent event.

This year Rose & Rina decided not to get a stall -  who want's to be tied down in one place with so many goodies to check out?! But after we've got a feel for the event this time around, maybe we'll be there selling next year....

We'll be busy tonight getting ready for the Craft Guerrilla Summer fair tomorrow (details below):

We'll be debuting our new bags and cake stands so come along and check them out!

We Make London: Summer Boutique Update:

I've just stumbled across this blog post (click on the above) from 'We Make London' and am gutted to see that we missed their Summer Boutique! Judging by the pictures, the shop was filled to the brim with lovely hand made items.

Oh well, I'm sure there'll be a next time. Maybe Rose & Rina will even have some items on sale there!

Arrietty

As an unashamed lover of Studio Ghibli movies, I couldn't quite contain my excitement at the upcoming release of 'Arrietty'. The newest Studio Ghibli film is an adaptation of Mary Norton's novel The Borrowers, and if like me, you grew up watching BBC1 on a Sunday evening, you will remember the brilliant drama adaptation that introduced us to Norton's world of tiny Borrowers and giant 'human beans'!

This animated version is co produced by (the wonderful) Canal +, directed by first timer Hiromasa Yonebayashi, and adapted from the novel by the legend himself Hayao Miyazaki . Released in the UK on July 29th. I simply cannot wait!

Superfumi

East London Craft Guerrillas have given a sneaky-peek into some of the shops that will be at the craft fair this Saturday July 30th. One of the stores I'm most looking forward to visting is Superfumi  Their range of handmade stationary and accesories are just the right side of cute but cool and will make excellent gifts. Although, I've been checking out the Mysterious Owl necklace below just for myself!

Pop Up Vintage Fair in Hampstead

Here are some pictures of our stall at the Pop Up Vintage Fair in St Stephen's Church, Hampstead.

The venue was beautiful - a derelict church building complete with stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings, the perfect back drop to the wealth of beautiful vintage clothes, shoes and (of course) teacup candles and cake stands!

Music was provided by the fabulous Belle and the Pocket Belles who sang some old school tunes al la, the Andrews Sisters and the Puppini's.

My friend Holly who came along to help
It was a great day with the teacup candles and tiered willow cake stands going down  a storm. We'll definitely try to be at the Christmas Pop Up Vintage Fair!

Craft Guerrilla Summer Fair

It's a busy month of July for Rose & Rina...

We'll be selling our wares at the Craft Guerilla Summer Craft Fair in Walthamstow on the 30th July, which we are super excited about!

Again we'll be there with the candles and cake stands, as well as some hand made bags and cushions fresh in from our home country Ghana! Come along if you're based in East London and have a 'thing' for traditional African Fabrics or Alice In Wonderland style tea parties - we'll have it all!

Ps. There's lots of cool stuff going on that's organised by Craft Guerilla London from fairs to 'make do and mend' parties. Check out their website for more info...

Who are Rose & Rina?

Who are Rose & Rina and what do we do?

The company is largely run by me, Lorraine, who learned to put my fidgety fingers to good use at an early age by making, painting, sculpting and sewing - mostly thanks to my Nana Rose.

I live in London, with my family, friends, and Sasha Fierce the cat.

Currently, we're making teacup candles and unique cake stands, made from vintage English china lovingly sourced from vintage shops, car boots and the back of dusty old cupboards. We also sew an eclectic range of cushions/pillows and bags influenced by our West African heritage from shoe bags to clutch purses and weekend shoppers. Our range is ever growing and ever changing, so check out 'Rose & Rina' (RoseandRina) on Etsy or Folksy, as new items are always being added!

We are also happy to create custom orders. You can email us at roseandrina@hotmail.co.uk or tweet us @roseandrina
